> Paddle boats -  Pedal about having fun

When we mention the word paddle boat many people think of the old river boats cruising up and down the Mississippi river. Well some of those old river boats are still around however, the paddle boats we’re referring to are the ones that are use for recreation purposes. Instead of steam power they operate with human power.

The way a recreational paddle boat is driven is by the use of a large wheel with flat blades that push through the water and propel the boat forward. The boat usually seats two people and can be operated by the use of pedals. In order to steer the boat there is a lever that is situated between the seats that operates the rudder. If you want to make a turn you simply move the lever and the boat will follow in the direction you have chosen.

You’re not going to set any speed records on a paddle boat however, if you are looking to relax and take it easy then this type of boat is for you. Paddle boats provide a lot of fun and enjoyment. They are not designed to be operated in rough water and should only be used in a safe environment. As with any other watercraft good common sense should be used at all times and always follow the boating rules for your area. Happy paddling!
